TCS Enables ICICI Lombard Disaster Recovery on AWS
Mumbai, August 25, 2025
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services and consulting, has enabled ICICI Lombard General Insurance to implement a fully automated, multi-region disaster recovery (DR) solution on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. This milestone makes ICICI Lombard one of the first insurance companies in India to achieve a fully automated, cloud-native resilience model across regions.
The new DR capability is designed to ensure business continuity in the event of infrastructure disruptions, with automated failover, minimal downtime, and almost zero manual intervention. Built on an automation-first, infrastructure-as-code approach, the solution uses AWS-native services to orchestrate seamless recovery for critical systems.
Enhancing resilience in the insurance sector
ICICI Lombard has been operating on AWS Cloud since 2021, with TCS as its strategic growth partner. The latest implementation strengthens the insurer’s business continuity planning by adding geographical redundancy and automation to its disaster recovery framework.
“With resilience at the core of our digital operating model, and TCS as our strategic technology partner, we’ve been able to transform our disaster recovery capabilities into a truly agile, automated and cloud-native setup. This not only enhances our readiness for unexpected infrastructure disruptions but also reinforces our commitment to uninterrupted service to our customers,” said Girish Nayak, Chief – Technology and Health (Underwriting & Claims), ICICI Lombard.
TCS leveraged its deep insurance domain expertise and contextual knowledge of ICICI Lombard’s IT landscape to deliver the solution. Built on a serverless, data-driven architecture designed for large-scale orchestration, the new system reduces recovery time significantly, improves operational resilience, and sets an industry benchmark for BFSI organizations adopting cloud-native DR solutions.
A step towards next-generation resilience
Highlighting the broader industry impact, Ujjwal Mathur, President & Country Head – India Business, TCS, said:
“This engagement highlights our commitment to helping clients achieve next-generation resilience through cloud-native innovation. This intelligent, automation-led DR solution sets a new benchmark for BFSI organizations by enabling seamless, fast, and scalable disaster recovery with zero touch.”
Long-standing partnership
TCS has been associated with ICICI Lombard since 2006, managing datacenter operations since 2013, and overseeing the insurer’s migration to public cloud in 2021. Currently, TCS is modernizing ICICI Lombard’s core systems under Project Orion, which includes the deployment of TCS BaNCS™ Insurance.
TCS BaNCS™ Insurance is an integrated solution supporting customer management, policy administration, claims processing, reinsurance, and insurance accounting, alongside a persona-based digital suite. This project is expected to further strengthen ICICI Lombard’s technology backbone and position it as a leader in digital insurance operations.
With this achievement, ICICI Lombard not only enhances its disaster recovery readiness but also sets a precedent for how insurers can use cloud-native automation to ensure continuity, scalability, and resilience in an increasingly digital-first BFSI ecosystem.
