DXC, AWS help ivari move 732,000 life policies to cloud, cutting operating costs by 22%
DXC Technology has completed the first major phase of a multi-year core systems transformation for Canadian life insurer ivari, migrating 732,000 policies from its legacy Ingenium policy administration system to the cloud-based DXC Assure Platform running on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Announced on December 3, 2025, at AWS re:Invent, the go-live delivered a 22% reduction in operating costs during the migration period, enabled the launch of four new life insurance products, and established a more scalable cloud foundation for future growth.
What changed for ivari?
In this first phase, ivari’s heritage Ingenium system was moved onto DXC Assure, which uses AWS infrastructure to deliver greater scalability, resilience and security.
Key outcomes from the program include:
- 732,000 policies migrated from the legacy platform
- 4,500 new applications processed every month during migration, with no business disruption
- 22% reduction in operating costs during the migration period
- Four new products launched while the migration was underway
ivari serves the Canadian mass market with individual life insurance, managing approximately $96 million in annual premium and processing nearly 65,000 applications each year.
A platform + BPS model, not just a tech upgrade
The transformation builds on a long-term Business Process Services (BPS) relationship between ivari and DXC. Since 2019, ivari has relied on DXC for:
- New business processing
- Agency and distribution services
- Call center and back-office support
- Claims operations
- IT production support
By combining the Assure Platform with BPS, DXC is not only modernizing the core policy administration system but also running much of the surrounding operational stack. This bundled model is positioned as a way for insurers to modernize without fragmenting accountability across multiple vendors.
Why this migration matters for life insurers
For life insurers, the ivari program addresses several strategic priorities:
- Cost and efficiency
Achieving a 22% reduction in operating costs during the migration itself helps counter the perception that core modernization only pays off far in the future. - Speed to market
The ability to launch four new products during a major core migration suggests that the platform and operating model can support continuous product change rather than requiring long freezes. - Cloud-ready core
Moving Ingenium workloads onto Assure on AWS gives ivari a cloud-based foundation for APIs, digital front ends for advisors and customers, and better integration with surrounding systems. - Operational continuity
The migration was completed without disruption to policyholders or distribution partners, addressing one of the biggest risks associated with large-scale core conversions.
What comes next for ivari?
DXC and ivari plan to continue with additional “transformation bundles,” including:
- Converting end-of-life surrounding framework systems to standard DXC offerings
- Further simplifying ivari’s technology landscape
- Enhancing access to data to support analytics and future expansion
The roadmap is designed to move more of ivari’s ecosystem onto a consistent, cloud-based architecture while DXC continues to manage day-to-day operations behind the scenes.
DXC’s broader insurance positioning
DXC positions the ivari migration as a milestone in its insurance strategy. The company has more than 40 years of experience in insurance technology and business process services and works with many of the world’s leading insurers. Its Assure Platform is a central part of its proposition to help insurers modernize core systems, move to the cloud and deliver digital-first experiences for policyholders and distribution partners.
