Cognizant Sets Guinness World Record with Largest Generative AI Hackathon

Cognizant’s “Vibe Coding” Event Sets GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title

Teaneck, N.J., August 21, 2025

Cognizant (NASDAQ: CTSH) has secured a Guinness World Records™ title by hosting the world’s largest online generative AI hackathon, a milestone that underscores the company’s commitment to building an AI-native workforce.

Over a ten-day period, 53,199 Cognizant associates from 40 countries took part in the company’s Vibe Coding event, producing an unprecedented 30,601 working prototypes and ideas. From HR wellness assistants to compliance-checking apps for brand identity, submissions reflected the diverse ways AI can be applied across industries.

The achievement was confirmed by an official Guinness World Records adjudicator, recognizing Cognizant for the “most participants in an online generative AI hackathon.”

At the heart of the event was the “Vibe Coding Hub”, a platform developed in just 24 hours using generative AI tools. The hub provided participants with access to coding platforms from partners such as GitHub Copilot, Lovable, Cursor, Gemini Code Assist, and Windsurf, alongside tutorials, masterclasses, and prompt engineering sessions.

Coined by AI researcher Andrej Karpathy, vibe coding is an intuitive approach where natural language prompts replace traditional syntax. Participants describe what they want to build, and AI tools handle code generation, debugging, and refinement, lowering the entry barrier to innovation.

Ravi Kumar S., CEO of Cognizant, described the initiative as more than a record-setting feat:

“We’re not just adapting to the AI economy, we’re shaping it. Vibe coding allows every associate to innovate with AI, reimagine processes, and bring creativity to scale for our clients.”

Partner Contributions

  • GitHub Copilot highlighted how AI-driven developer tools are transforming long software projects into fast-paced innovation cycles.
  • Lovable’s CEO Anton Osika called the hackathon “a rehearsal for the future of work,” where even non-technical professionals could build applications.
  • Cursor’s co-founder Michael Truell emphasized the importance of tool autonomy in driving large-scale adoption of AI-powered coding.
  • Jeff Wang, CEO of Windsurf, noted that the event demonstrated how AI can help organizations accelerate innovation by “100x.”

Cognizant’s Gen AI Strategy

While more than 53,000 actively participated, over 250,000 associates have registered for the new Cognizant Global Vibe Coding Community, a collaborative network to share tools, ideas, and breakthroughs. This platform is expected to drive sustained innovation across the enterprise and its client engagements.

The initiative aligns with Cognizant’s broader AI strategy, which includes a $1 billion investment and its Synapse training program, aimed at upskilling one million professionals in digital and AI skills by 2026.

With this record-breaking hackathon, Cognizant has positioned itself at the forefront of the AI-driven workplace, blending scale, inclusivity, and innovation in a way few enterprises have achieved.
